NIHR Open Data

We are the National Institute for Health and Care Research. We fund health and care research and translate discoveries into practical products, treatments, devices and procedures, involving patients and the public in all our work.

We ensure the NHS is able to support the research of other funders to encourage broader investment in, and economic growth from, health research. We work with charities and the life sciences industry to help patients gain earlier access to breakthrough treatments and we train and develop researchers to keep the nation at the forefront of international research

The datasets hosted here have been prepared by the NIHR Centre for Business Intelligence in conjunction with the NIHR Coordinating Centres.

The dataset contains awards funded by NIHR which were active at any time on or after 1st April 2011. Data is provided on a quarterly basis, in accordance with agreed data definitions.

The dataset contains basic information about the health research awards funded by NIHR, such as: Project ID, Award Title, Chief Investigator details and their ORCiD identifier (https://orcid.org/) where available, and the contracted organisation details.

The mapping of individual awards to Health Research Classification System (https://hrcsonline.net/) codes has been made available in a separate file for awards where this information is captured.
